The Mumford Babbs Creative Music Squad was a collective of improvisers including:Pasquale Cangiano,Kazuto Sato,Ben Karetnick and Jeremy "Phloyd" Starpoli From 1999 to 2001 this collective was a working quartet playing gigs mostly in Brooklyn and recording mostly at Sarah Lawrence College. This collection is from two recording sessions that were done at Sarah Lawrence and at a studio in Brooklyn. The Compositions "Inner and Outer War", "Iqbal's Blues" and "Atrophy" are all Pasquale Cangiano originals. The others are all on-the-spot compositions. "The sound of a Promise That Was Never Made, But Not Kept" was a collective expression that was led by Cangiano, expressing the emotional termoil that comes from heartbreak for a Sofia Coppola look-a-like. This track made its way into the film "Sofia Wants Me". "Sound Check" was a collective improv done in the main room at Sarah Lawrence. "Oriental Trading" and "Miles in Yonkers" are also collective on-the-spot compositions. "Time Experiment" was a collective improvisation under the direction of Kazuto Sato, which deals with rapid time changes and his experience with studying under Gary Peacock. This collection where unreleased recordings from the late'90s until now.
